You should look into home remedies for colds and flu in children if they have a stuffy, stuffy nose. Children under the age of 6 may not be able to take over-the–counter medication for cough. Drying their nasal passages can make it worse. Drinking plenty of water is a natural way to keep your child's nasal tissues moist. You can also make 100% fruit popsicles from scratch or purchase them from the supermarket. Your child may enjoy these more than water, so you should be sure to avoid products with caffeine.

Gargling with saltwater

The use of salt water gargling has been around for centuries. A study of 400 people found that people who gargled with salt water had forty percent fewer upper respiratory tract infections. Gargling with salt water draws fluid from inflamed tissues of the throat, which helps to loosen mucus and flush out other irritants. The Mayo Clinic recommends gargling salt water for about three seconds.

How To

10 Tips for a Healthy Lifestyle

How to keep a healthy lifestyle

We live in a fast paced world, where we don’t get enough sleep and smoke cigarettes. We don't pay enough attention to our bodies' health.

When you work full time and have to balance your exercise and diet, it can be very difficult to create a healthy lifestyle. It is even more difficult if you feel stressed. Then, your mind tells yourself that it cannot handle this situation any more so we feel guilty about it and give up.

If you feel something is wrong with the body, it is probably. Ask your doctor for his/her opinion about your current situation. If there are no signs of something abnormal, stress from your job could be the cause.

Some people believe that their job allows them to exercise regularly, or that they have friends who support them in staying fit. They are fortunate. These people have no problems. They got everything under control. I wish that everyone could be like them. Unfortunately, most people don't know the best ways to balance their personal and professional lives. Many people develop bad habits that eventually lead to disease such as diabetes, heart disease, and cancer.

Here are some tips that might help you to improve your lifestyle:

  1. Get adequate sleep - 7 hours a day minimum, 8 hours maximum. This includes good sleeping habits and avoiding caffeine for the last hour before bed. Caffeine blocks the production of melatonin hormones and makes it harder to fall asleep. Your bedroom should be darkened and cleaned. Consider using blackout curtains, especially if working late at night.
  2. Get healthy - Start your day with a good breakfast. Avoid sugary products, fried food and white breads. Lunch should include fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. It is recommended that afternoon snacks be high in fiber and protein, such as nuts and seeds, beans, fish, and dairy products. Avoid junk food like chips, candies and cakes.
  3. Get plenty of water. Most people don't drink enough. Water can help us burn more calories, keep our skin supple and young, flush out toxins and improve our digestion. Six glasses of water per day will help you lose weight quicker. Your urine color is the best way to determine your hydration levels. Dehydrated is yellow, orange dehydrated slightly; normal pink urine; overhydrated red urine; and clear urine indicates highly-hydrated.
  4. Exercise - Regular physical activity has been proven to increase energy levels and reduce depression. Walking is an easy way to improve your mood. Even though it may look easy, walking requires focus and concentration. Walking requires your brain to be focused on the task at hand, and you need to breathe slowly and deeply. For between 100 and 150 calories, a 30 minute walk can be enough to burn about 100 to 150 calories. Start slow, and then increase the pace. To avoid injuries, stretch after exercising.
  5. Positive thinking is vital for mental health. If we are positive, we create a happier environment in our minds. Negative thoughts can cause anxiety and drain our energy. Focus on what you want and do the things that will keep you motivated. You don't have to take on all of the new tasks at once. Break them down into smaller tasks. It is inevitable that you will fail. But don't worry, just keep trying and get up again.
  6. Learn to say No. We are often so busy that our attention is not focused on the important things we are doing. It is important to be able to say No when needed. Saying 'no' does not mean being rude. You are simply saying "no" to something. You can always find other ways to complete the job later. Set boundaries. You can ask someone to help you. You can also delegate this task to another person.
  7. Take care of you body. Eat healthier foods to boost metabolism and shed extra weight. Do not eat anything too heavy or oily because they tend to raise cholesterol levels. Three meals and two snacks are a good rule of thumb. Your daily calories should range from 2000 to 2500.
  8. Meditate – Meditation is great for stress relief and anxiety. Relax your mind by sitting still with your eyes closed. This will help you make better decisions. Meditation can help you be calmer, happier, and more productive.
  9. Do not skip breakfast. Breakfast is the most important meal of each day. Skipping breakfast may lead to overeating during lunchtime. You don't have to wait until noon to enjoy a healthy breakfast. Eating breakfast increases your energy level and helps you to control your hunger.
  10. Healthy food is the best. Food can have a profound effect on our moods. Avoid junk food or any food items that contain preservatives or artificial ingredients. These foods make your body feel acidic, and can trigger cravings. The vitamins and minerals in fruits and veggies are good for your overall health.
